May 2020

Spring 2020 HRascals Meeting will be recorded and available online May 13, 2020. Due to not being able to meet in-person, the May 13 Spring HRascals meeting will be recorded and posted on-line.

On May 1, 2020 approximately 100 PSU employees, who work in units impacted by the loss of revenue or lack of work due to COVID-19 mitigation efforts, received notice that they would be enrolled in the PSU Extended Benefit Program. The program will allow employees to retain health care benefits while on an unpaid leave of absence. Displaced employees will also have the opportunity to apply for expanded unemployment insurance and human resources will provide employee support services.

April 2020

We have posted a recorded copy of the 4/2/20 webinar addressing HR and the federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). The link and answers to questions not addressed in the FAQ can be found here.

March 2020

The federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act or FFCRA was passed on March 18, 2020, in response to the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. The FFCRA applies to Portland State University (PSU) and creates new sick leave and family leave benefits to employees who must be absent from work due to COVID-19.

The FFCRA provides employees with two new leave benefits. These benefits are available as of April 1, 2020, and extend through December 31, 2020, and are summarized here.

Sign up for Direct Deposit! There is still time to sign up for direct deposit of your March, 2020 paycheck!  Employees can sign up on banweb at banweb.pdx.edu and receive their funds on payday!

To encourage social distancing by limiting the number of employees in the HR Lobby, all payday checks will be mailed out to employees instead of being held in HR for in-person pickup. Checks will be mailed to the address on file in banweb, please double check that your address is correct!

Strategic Hiring Freeze FAQs

University response to Coronavirus

February 2020

Per the new SEIU contract, effective July 1, 2019, all SEIU employees have a bucket of leave to be used in the event of a university announced closure.  The leave is to be used similar to holiday pay. When PSU has a closure SEIU employees should use “leave taken weather” LTW in place of the regular hours they were scheduled to work.  Essential services employees will enter all hours worked as overtime, in addition to the leave taken weather (LTW) hours to be paid double time and a half for all hours worked during the weather event.

Supervisors should consider that all SEIU employees are being paid for the first 48 hours of inclement weather events and plan in advance if employees are considered “essential”.

October 2019

Oregon Employees' Charitable Fund Drive 2019

Starting on November 1st, PSU will launch our Charitable Fund Drive for 2019.

Our main message is “Give dollars. Make change.” which recognizes the power each of us has to make our communities better through Charitable Fund Drive donations. This event encourages each of us to think about our own passions for improving our communities – and to realize that every State employee deserves to know how they can use the Fund Drive to support their communities.

September 2019

This year in HR we have continued our work to ensure that our processes are easy to access and that transactions are processed quickly and reliably. To those ends, we have converted a number of our most-frequented forms into electronic format. This includes:

  • ADA Accommodations
  • FMLA/OFLA Requests
  • TDI Retirement Deductions
  • PSU Injury Reports
  • ORP-PERS Choice Form (sent to employees)

All of these forms can now be filled out securely online and submitted directly into the respective HR process. We will continue our automation efforts and always appreciate your feedback on these or any other topics. Thank you again for your partnership as we continue this important work.
