Ji Woon (June) Ryu, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Management at Portland State University’s School of Business. She earned her Ph.D. in Business Administration, with a concentration in Organizational Behavior, from Indiana University and her B.B.A. and M.S. in Business Administration from Yonsei University in South Korea.
Her research examines well-being in the modern workplace through two complementary streams. “Well-being for Everyone” explores how social group membership and individual differences shape well-being at work. “Well-being in the Modern Workplace” investigates how contemporary workplace features, particularly technology, affect well-being. Her work has appeared in leading journals, including the Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Annals, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Personnel Psychology, and Organizational Research Methods.
Her honors include the 2026 MK-AKMS Young Scholar Award from the Association of Korean Management Scholars, the 2025 Researcher of the Year award from PSU’s School of Business, and the 2021 Meredith P. Crawford Fellowship from the Human Resource Research Organization. Her research on racial differences in the effects of workplace mistreatment on depression was selected as the Editor’s Choice for the Journal of Applied Psychology’s May 2024 issue.
She teaches Contemporary Leadership Issues, emphasizing authentic learning through simulations, applied activities, and opportunities for students to practice leadership in their own lives and create meaningful behavioral change, both big and small.
