The Portland State University Human Resource Management Association (HRMA) has been awarded the prestigious Outstanding Chapter Award from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). This highly competitive award recognizes the exceptional achievements of SHRM student chapters nationwide. The PSU HRMA group is one of only 12 chapters to receive this distinguished honor, solidifying its position as a leader in the field of human resource management. Talya Bauer, Cameron Endowed Chair in Management and HRM Area Director for The School of Business noted, “It is inspirational to see talented groups of students come together year after year to provide leadership which keeps HR practices and pipelines vibrant. The HRMA chapter was founded in 1981 and has won SHRM Merit Awards at various levels for over 35 years straight. It is an amazing accomplishment and one that is built on years of dedication via partnerships with students, faculty, the local HR community, and SHRM. I am proud to be part of this group.”

HRMA’s commitment to excellence was evident throughout the 2022-2023 academic year. The chapter consistently hosted engaging and informative events, including presentations by industry experts, workshops on career development, and networking opportunities for students. Additionally, HRMA actively partnered with local organizations to provide volunteer opportunities for students, fostering a sense of community engagement and social responsibility.

The Outstanding Chapter Award is a significant achievement that reflects HRMA’s unwavering commitment to its members and to the HR profession. The chapter remains dedicated to providing its members with the resources and support they need to succeed in their careers and make a positive impact on the world of work. Kaylee Brunette (2023-2024 HRMA Chapter President) sends an invitation to all School of Business students to get involved saying, “Don’t underestimate the Human Resource degree; it’s the universal language of people management. Whether finance, marketing, or any major, HR turns every business student into a versatile architect of organizational success.” Learn more about HRMA, and/or contact Kaylee or Jeffrey Nelson (HRMA Advisor) at psuhrma@pdx.edu.
