LETTER FROM THE DEAN
Dr. qing HU

Dean Qing Hu

As we conclude another transformative year at The School of Business, I am deeply proud of what we have achieved together. This year has been defined by innovation, collaboration, and a shared commitment to building a more inclusive, future-focused model of business education.

Among our most important milestones was the successful completion of our 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, the result of a year-long effort by faculty, staff, students, and business partners. Centered on five core priorities—student success, transformative learning, community engagement, impactful research, and sustainable growth—this plan offers a clear and compelling roadmap for the years ahead.

We launched the AI for Business Micro-Credential, a key outcome of our AI Integration Initiative. This new program equips students with the tools to thrive in an AI-driven economy and exemplifies our commitment to innovation. Our inaugural AI*CON Conference further demonstrated how artificial intelligence is reshaping education, careers, and industry.

The evolution of our Societal Impact Initiative was equally significant. We established the school’s first Standing Committee on Societal Impact and Community Engagement and introduced the Societal Impact Quarterly Newsletter, advancing our mission to use business as a tool for social, economic, and environmental change—reflecting Portland State University’s enduring motto: “Let Knowledge Serve the City.”

We also celebrated a major institutional achievement: the reaffirmation of our AACSB dual accreditation in Business and Accounting. This places us in the top 5% of business schools worldwide, affirming our commitment to student success, academic excellence, thought leadership, and societal impact at the highest global standard.

These milestones were matched by outstanding tangible results. We awarded over $500,000 in scholarships and $168,000 in hardship funding to deserving students, raised more than $4 million in philanthropic support from our donors and alumni, and achieved strong career outcomes for our students—90% of undergraduates and 94% of graduate students secured employment within six months of graduation.

Thank you for being part of this journey. With your continued support, we will keep redefining business and transforming lives for a better world.

With appreciation and resolve,

Qing Signature
