Time Off

PSU recognizes that employees need time to rest and refresh. Another crucial element of time away from the job involves maintaining income during periods of illness and/or injury. The following options show a variety of paid and unpaid time off programs available to eligible employees.

Vacation

Paid vacation time is offered to classified employees with .50 Full Time Equivalency (FTE) appointments or more. If you have an unclassified twelve-month appointment, this benefit also applies to you. You can earn or accrue vacation hours on a monthly basis. As a new employee, your vacation accrual starts from your first day of work. Faculty members on a 9-month contract do not receive paid vacations except for holidays that occur during the term of the contract. For full details on vacation go to Vacation/Personal Days.

Holidays

PSU observes the following holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, and Christmas Day. Observance of these holidays affects each employee's pay differently depending on classification. Please refer to the Holiday page for more information.

Sick Leave

As an eligible employee, you may accrue Sick Leave as determined by your classification. Sick Leave accrual starts with your first full month of service. There is no maximum limit to sick leave accrual.

Other Employee Leaves

Employees are also offered a variety of leave benefits by PSU. These leaves can be combined with paid time off programs as specified. For medical-related leaves, visit the Family Medical LeaveADA, or Workers' Compensation pages.
