PSU named an Ashoka U Changemaker Campus for social innovation leadership

As a leader in social innovation education worldwide, PSU has once again been named an Ashoka U Changemaker Campus. After a rigorous, year-long review process, PSU’s membership has been renewed for another five years, placing it among a global community of leaders and institutions who work collectively to make social innovation and changemaking a reality in higher education.

Investing in the student experience: Bloomberg Finance Lab opens in Karl Miller Center

PSU’s new Bloomberg Finance Lab opened in April, giving students and faculty access to the Bloomberg Terminal, a 24-hour global financial services system that provides transparent and reliable financial, economic and government information covering all market sectors.

Analytics infused throughout business curriculum to meet modern demands 

Data, big and little, give businesses more information and insights than ever before. But data alone can’t inform smart decision-making; the value comes from people who are skilled in data analytics. The School of Business is working with industry partners to address the growing need for analytics-savvy professionals across a variety of business functions.

Business and engineering students pair up to create clean energy commutes

In April 2019, business student Sean Krivonogoff and engineering student Blake Turner won the PSU CleanTech Challenge for co-developing a revolutionary zero-emissions vehicle kit concept.

Out in Business Scholarship empowers LGBTQ+ community

Lukas Robuck decided to pivot away from immigration law after they realized the field was focused more on earning money from clients than helping them pursue their dreams.

 

Making it count: Finding meaning and value beyond the classroom

Luis Patron was a 12-year-old boy living with his family in Mexico when his mother, suffering the recent loss of her husband and wanting to provide a better way of life away from violent drug cartels, moved the family north. They settled in Woodburn, an agricultural and heavily Hispanic community near Salem, and she did whatever she could to support them.

Eunice Makinde honored with President's Diversity Award

Diversity Recruitment and Retention Specialist Eunice Makinde was honored with a 2019 President's Diversity Award for Distinguished Staff. She was nominated by her colleagues in The School of Business for her hard work advising and making connections for students from underrepresented populations.​

In the business of community: The Portland MBA celebrates 50 years

Justin Chi was primed for a pivot.

After over two years working as a professional services consultant at Daimler Trucks North America, the young environmental engineer craved a more people-focused role.

 

PSU undergraduate capstone harnesses the power of community and collaboration

Since 2011, The School of Business has fostered nearly 600 relationships between local businesses and students through an immersive undergraduate capstone class. PSU is one of the few schools in the nation to offer an undergraduate business consulting capstone program that works with real-world clients.

Centers of Excellence rooted in industry engagement

Retail disruption is a predominant theme bridging the Center for Retail Leadership (CRL) and Center for Real Estate (CRE). This year over a dozen business students had the opportunity to attend global retail conferences where they learned about the rapidly evolving industry and networked with an expansive web of firms and professionals

 

New PSU CO-OP allows students to earn while they learn

PSU students are working in paid jobs related to their major through PSU CO-OP, a new cooperative education program that combines classroom education with career experiences at Portland-area businesses.
