The Edge Effect

In the overlapping space between two ecosystems, an abundance of nutrients and new life emerges. Inspired by this natural science phenomenon, the 2020 Elevating Impact Summit looked toward the peripheries of our practices for ingenuity and resilience.

"The Edge Effect", floor to ceiling fabric panels, lit by responsive projection mapping, make a tactile edge effect as guests move through and interact with the installation, was designed and produced for the Elevating Impact Summit by the immersive design studio Invisible Thread, the Portland Garment Factory, Mikele Schnitman (Art & Craft), and Creative Director Olivia Guethling.

Social Innovation and the Census Panel

Counting the entire U.S. population is a vast and complex undertaking with important consequences for all of America. In this panel, two changemakers discuss their efforts to help the Census Bureau ensure that hard-to-count populations are included in the final tally. They will explore hos historic bias has shaped the way the Census is done, and how innovative practices are addressing the negative impact of those systemic inequities.
