Senior Capstone FAQs

For Companies

How do I partner with Portland State School of Business?

The Senior Capstone accepts organization projects via form submission.

What happens after I submit my partnership project?

After submitting your project, the selection committee will review your project. You'll receive an email invitation with details about your project participation once you are accepted.

What is my organization’s commitment?

Clients are expected to provide students with access to the resources and information—for example, data, documentation, or other resources required for the project. The clients are also expected to meet with students (Zoom or in-person) and attend in-class/zoom presentations up to five times. Commitment is one semester, which is up to 11 weeks.

What is expected of Capstone student teams?

Students are expected to be the owners of their projects and manage the relationship with their clients, much as an independent consultant would.Your team sends out regular weekly or biweekly reports to update you on progress and raise issues that you need to address.

How much does it cost?

Participation in the Capstone is free. However, based on prior agreement and approval between the client and student team, the client will reimburse students for any out-of-pocket expenses incurred in the execution of the project. Typical fees include project-related travel, communications, research and presentation materials, and direct costs associated with research.

Can I participate in class via Zoom?

Yes, PSU offers online classes via Zoom. In-person classes will be held at the Karl Miller Center on the PSU campus.

What is the Capstone?

Capstone BA495 is the final course requirement for all senior business majors. The purpose is for students with different business majors to work together to apply their academic business coursework and test their core competencies in a real-world project with a real-world client.

Before submitting your project, please consider:

  • Project goals and outcomes. What are the goals and desired results of your project? What are the challenges you and your organization are looking to wrestle with?
  • Deliverables. What outputs do you need from your project (e.g., market research reports, written recommendations, financial analysis, or a new location feasibility report)?

Is my partner project a good fit?

If you’re unsure whether your project is a good fit for the Capstone, email Hande Ozer-Buyukasin at ozer@pdx.edu will answer your questions about submitting a project idea.
