Youth Members


Youth 17 & under are welcome at the Rec Center during designated youth hours and at special youth events when accompanied and supervised by a sponsoring adult member. For more information on youth hours, access and family-friendly programs, visit the Youth & Family webpage.

  • Rec Center members can sponsor their youth dependents for free. To receive access, members must register their dependents as Youth Pass Holders at Member Services by providing the youths full name and date of birth and signing a liability release (PDF).
  • Rec Center members can sponsor up to 3 youth guests per visit at $7 per person daily guest fee. Youth guests must bring a  liability release (PDF) signed by a legal parent or guardian.

Conditions:

  • All youth must submit a liability release (PDF) to Member Services, signed by a legal parent or guardian prior, to using the facility. See our Policies (PDF) for more information.
  • Youth 15 years and younger must remain under the direct supervision and care of a parent/guardian or sponsoring adult member when in the Rec Center. 
  • Youth 16 & 17 years old may participate separately from their parent/guardian or sponsoring adult member. This adult must remain in the Rec Center at all times the youth is in the building and remains responsible for the youth.

Youth Access


During youth hours, youth are allowed in all activity spaces of the Rec Center with the following restrictions:

  • Youth 15 years and younger must remain under the direct supervision and care of a parent/ guardian or sponsoring adult member when in the Rec Center. 
  • Youth 16 and 17 years old may participate separately from their parent/ guardian or sponsoring adult member. This adult must remain in the Rec Center at all times the youth is in the building and remains responsible for the youth
  • Locker Rooms:
    • Youth, 5 years and under, may use the locker room that corresponds with the gender identity of the sponsoring adult member. 
    • Youth, 6 years and up, may use the locker room and restroom space on their own where they are most comfortable and that corresponds with their gender identity. Universal changing rooms, which include showers and changing tables, are available on the 2nd floor near the pool and 4th floor. 
  • No Rec Center spaces are reserved solely for youth/family programming and scheduled activities take priority.

Youth may spectate in designated spaces while their adult sponsoring member uses the Rec Center. 

  • During Youth Hours, youth are allowed to spectate in all spaces except the weight room. During certain events or classes youth may not be allowed for safety or capacity reasons.
  • During Non-Youth hours, youth are allowed to spectate at the following events: Night at the Rec, Faculty/Staff Tournaments, Climbing Center Competitions, and Intramural Playoffs. 
     

Family-Friendly Programs

The programs and spaces listed below are open to youth during youth hours. No Rec Center spaces are reserved solely for youth/family programming. Spaces, events or activities not listed on this page are not open to youth.


 

Aquatics

  • Youth Swim Lessons - Learn to swim and water safety classes for kids 1-12 years of age through level 3.  
  • Open Rec Swim - Families wanting to play and swim in the pool during youth hours should come during Open Rec Swim times. Make a splash at the Rec Center pool! Swim laps, play water games, or relax in the spa. Whether you are seeking leisure or exercise, experience the pool in a new way. Specified swim lanes are dedicated to Open Rec Swim during designated times. Pool toys and equipment are provided.
  • Women-Only and Men-Only Swim - Youth ages 5 and under may go into the opposite gender locker room with their parent/guardian during Women-Only and Men-Only swim times. Universal locker rooms, which include showers, lockers and changing

Climbing Center

The Climbing Center is open to youth during youth hours. Ages 15 and under may only use the Climbing Center during youth hours and under the direct supervision of the parent/guardian. 

  • Youth pass holders who are 16 or 17 years old may complete the Climbing Center orientation and become a Climbing Center pass holder. They are then permitted to use the Climbing Center during youth hours without direct parent/guardian supervision.
  • Youth must be 13 or older to take a Belay Class or participate in belaying another climber.
  • Youth must safely fit into climbing harnesses in order to top-rope climb at the facility. Climbing shoes and harnesses are available for check-out.
  • The annual Bridgetown Boulder Bash Community Climbing Competition is open to those 16 and older.

Courts

Youth are allowed on the Rec Center courts during designated youth hours. While there is no specific youth programming offered on the courts for spring term, family-friendly programs including Open Inclusive Rec, Wheelchair Sports, Goalball, and drop-in sports. Group X

Youth are welcome to participate in our in-person Group X fitness classes offered on Saturdays only. Check out our list of virtual family-friendly offerings for additional opportunities to keep youth active and engaged.


Indoor Track

Youth 15 and under are not allowed in the weight and cardio areas of the Rec Center, with the exception of the indoor track on the Fourth Floor and designated youth specific cardio equipment.
