The most prominently spoken language on the planet with around 1.2 billion native speakers, Chinese is one of the key languages for international communication.

Explore a literary tradition that extends over three thousand years: from brilliant philosophical texts written millennia ago and achingly beautiful poetry of all ages, to contemporary novels of Nobel Prize laureates. We offer four years of instruction in both Chinese language and literature, a major and a minor.

Degree Programs

We offer a Bachelor of Arts and Minor in Chinese and a Master of Arts in World Languages and Literatures with a secondary language concentration in Chinese. We also offer a Certificate in Intercultural Competence for the Workplace and a Certificate in Pedagogy in World Languages.

Second Language Requirement

Students can also fulfill their Bachelor of Arts (BA), or Master of Arts (MA) second language requirement in Chinese.
