Veterans Certification Financial Resources

Financial Resources

There are a number of additional financial resources which may help student-veterans, dependants and active duty personnel defer the cost of education. It is strongly advised that all PSU students complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on a yearly basis. Even though students may not be eligible for financial aid, many other financial aid and scholarship programs require a completed application to be on file.

The VA offers student-veterans an opportunity to supplement their VA education benefits by using the Veterans Work Study program. Student-veterans must be enrolled no less than ¾ time to be eligible for the program. The Portland VA office maintains a list of approved work study sites. To learn more about the VA Work Study program call the Portland Regional Office at 1-800-827-1000.

Voyager Program

The Voyager Program is a last-dollar fee remission for Oregon National Guard/Reserves who have been deployed in a combat zone since Sept. 11, 2001. Once eligible student-veterans have used all the financial resources for which they are qualified any remaining fees for the term will be waived. Additional criteria for eligibility include:

  • Must be attending PSU as an admitted student
  • Must be in pursuit of their first bachelors' degree
  • Must be an Oregon resident
  • Must have completed an FAFSA application

To apply, veterans can fill out an online application or contact the Office of Student Financial Aid at 503.725.3461.

Oregon Veterans Dependent Tuition Waiver

Full tuition waivers for a bachelor's or master's degree at an OUS institution are available for a child or spouse of a member of the United States Armed Forces who either died in active duty, became 100% disabled in connection with military service, or died as a result of a disability sustained on active duty after September 11, 2001. Applications and eligibility information can be obtained from the Veterans Certification Office.

Veterans Scholarships

The Office of Student Financial Aid manages several private scholarships specifically earmarked for student-veterans. Different scholarships have varying eligibility criteria and application deadlines. Contact the Office of Student Financial Aid for details.
