Date: July 20th, 2023Time: 10:00 AMLocation: Virtual via Zoom: pdx.zoom.us/j/84649709932Advisor: Dr. Bill FishAbstract: "In order to remove nitrogen and phosphorus simultaneously from low carbon-to-nitrogen ratio wastewater under low DO, three integrated studies were subjected for research in this dissertation through 658 lab operation days: two studies were conducted to study simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SNdN) and combined low DO-EBPR system with post-anoxic denitrification (PAD) using stepwise DO reduction imposing a continuous aeration approach. The third study used an intermittent aeration approach to study the feasibility of integrating EBPR and SNdN systems at low DO of 0.35-0.5 mg/L for different reduction ratios of air OFF /air ON periods. The results showed that the ratios of the non-aerated period to the aerated periods 1.57 and 1.67 were more effective in achieving stable N and P removal for 360 min and 420 min-treatment cycles under SNdN rate and NAR% of 85.1 %, 80.2%, and 31.1%, 42.3%, respectively."
