Attend Orientation

STEP 4: Attend Orientation

Review your orientation confirmation email for your check-in time and location. You are required to attend the entire session. The day has been designed to provide you information about the most important resources for a successful student experience. Orientation is not designed as a drop-in or open house event. Arriving late or leaving early will impact your ability to register for courses.

Plan Your Travel

Make travel arrangements only once you have received your New Student Orientation confirmation email. You are required to attend the full program, so plan accordingly and do not arrive late or leave early for any reason.

Where to Stay

Students coming to New Student Orientation from outside the Portland Metropolitan region may be interested in arranging overnight accommodations in one of our on-campus residence halls or in a nearby hotel.

Stay on Campus: For fall orientation students and guests, University Housing and Residence Life offers summer housing options for an affordable rate. To reserve your room, visit the Reservation Portal.

University Place Hotel: hotel and conference center located just a few blocks from campus, is also a great option. For details, or to reserve a room, contact University Place at 503-221-0140. Be sure to mention you are attending PSU New Student Orientation!

Getting to Campus

Portland State University is located in downtown Portland, which means parking is limited. We highly encourage the use of public transportation to get to campus. Portland State University is well served by various TriMet bus lines, MAX Light Rail, and the Portland Streetcar. Use Trimet’s Plan Your Trip tool. You may find this printable Campus Map helpful too!

If you are planning to drive to campus, we recommended parking on the first floor of Parking Structure One (enter at 6th Avenue). Pay for your parking at one of the automated pay stations inside the garage. Using a metered parking space elsewhere is highly discouraged, as the day’s program does not provide time to leave and pay for additional parking. We do not provide free parking or validation.
