Applying for Housing

Students are able to complete a Room & Dining Contract once they have been admitted to Portland State University. To apply, activate your ODIN using the activation code you received in your Admissions email, and after 24 hours, Login to the Housing Portal.  If you need help with your ODIN, please use these instructions for Activating your ODIN Account.

First Year Experience (FYE) Housing:  Students under the age of 20 and who graduated high school less than a year prior qualify for our First Year Experience program.

Transfer/Upperclassmen Housing:  Transfer students and returning residents have the option to live in any of our upperclassmen residence halls.

To learn about your options, check out our FYE and Upperclassmen Housing Options page for more information. The 2019-20 housing priority deadline for new, incoming students is May 1st, 2019.  Students who apply by this date and are open to any unit option will be guaranteed housing.

Application Details

We accept contracts on a rolling basis and will continue to accept contracts even after our priority deadline. Because assignments are made on a first-come, first-serve system, we strongly encourage students to complete a Housing Contract as soon as possible. Assignments for 2019-20 will begin in Spring 2019.

You may log back into the Housing Portal at any time to view your contract status, room assignment, roommate information, and can even change your room preferences up until you receive a room assignment.

Important Dates

February 28, 2019: Room Selection Deadline for Current Residents
May 1, 2019: Priority Deadline for New Students
May 1, 2019: Last day to cancel 2019-20 Housing Contract and receive refund of $140 Spring Prepayment
September 26-27, 2019: Fall Move-in
September 30, 2019: Classes Begin
January 4, 2020: Winter Move-in
March 28, 2020: Spring Move-in
June 13, 2020: Move-out 

2019-20 Contract Fees

Housing Contract fees for 2019-20 are made up of a $50 non-refundable application fee and a $140 Spring Prepayment that will reduce Spring Housing charges by $140. Otherwise, the Spring Prepayment is refundable through May 1st, 2019.

2018-19 Contract Fees

Housing Contract fees for 2018-19 are made up of a $50 non-refundable application fee and a $150 Advance Payment that is credited back to the student account in Spring 2019. Otherwise, it is refundable up until the cancellation deadline provided to student in their assignment notification email. Assignments for Winter and Spring Quarters generally begin 3-6 weeks prior to the start of the term.


Students who are Pell eligible or a scholarship athlete may choose to defer their Housing Contract fees to their student account. This does not waive the fees but instead applies the Contract fees to the student account to be paid at a later time. Students who qualify for a deferral may choose this option when completing the Contract.
