Apply for Financial Aid
Portland State University students should use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for financial aid. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should be submitted by February 1 for priority consideration for our aid programs for the following academic year.

The application for financial aid is separate from application for admission. To be eligible for Four Years Free or Transfers Finish Free you must submit the FAFSA by May 1. To qualify for financial aid, you must be admitted to University. If you do not want to use the online FAFSA, you can obtain a paper version from your high school counselor, a local college, or by calling 1-800-4FEDAID.
If you are not eligible to submit the FAFSA, you can submit the Oregon Student Aid Application (ORSAA). The ORSAA is an alternative to the FAFSA for undocumented Oregon students, including students who have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status or Temporary Protected Status (TPS).
The FAFSA limits the number of schools you can list to 10. If you are applying to more schools than this, after the first FAFSA is processed, you can go back and add additional schools. The new schools will replace one or more of the previous school codes listed. Schools have different priority filing dates, so when determining the order to add schools to your FAFSA, keep in mind these dates.
Student Aid Report
You will receive an email to access your Student Aid Report (SAR) information after you send in your FAFSA. If an email address was not supplied, a paper SAR will be mailed. You must make any corrections requested on the form and mail or transmit it back as directed. You should correct any estimated income data when actual data is available.
We begin sending award notifications in the spring and continue through the summer. Generally, this will be sent to you electronically so check your @pdx.edu regularly.
Summer Term Financial Aid
Summer term is the last term in the academic year at Portland State University. Whether you’re just starting, continuing, or finishing your degree, you must have a 2019/2020 FAFSA on file at PSU or complete the 2019/2020 FAFSA by June 30, 2020 to receive summer term financial aid.
Later Applicants, Postbaccalaureate, and Part-time Students
In general, students whose FAFSAs are received after February 1, part-time, and post-baccalaureate students are considered and offered aid based on availability. We recommend that the FAFSA be submitted as early as possible before the beginning of the term in which you wish to receive aid. Less than full-time students and late applicants with exceptional circumstances can contact our office.
