UHRL Student Office Assistant Job Description

 

Job Title: Student Office Assistant
Pay: $15.45/hour

Essential Duties

The individual in this position assists in staffing the University Housing and Residence Life Student Services Office (UHRL) Front Desk by conveying factual information to students, parents, and staff, serving University Housing residents, and performing other clerical duties as assigned. The Housing Office is open Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. This position reports directly to the Housing Services Coordinator and the Housing Operations Coordinator.

Duties include:

  • Performing basic filing, data entry, mail processing, and word processing duties
  • Providing information to current and prospective students about University Housing policies and procedures via phone, emails and walk-ins.
  • Maintaining high levels of customer service
  • Using a computer program/database to help residents and provide information
  • Running errands across campus
  • Leading housing tours
  • Phone outreach to prospective and current PSU students to promote on-campus housing
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by full-time University Housing Office staff

Required Skills and Experience

A successful applicant will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Have excellent phone & customer service skills, including the ability to respond to angry or emotional customers
  • Be organized and detail-oriented with a strong work ethic
  • Must have the ability to respond to multiple requests in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work efficiently and positively in a high-stress work environment
  • Must have basic computer skills including using Google Suite, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Able to work independently as needed
  • Must have strong verbal and written English skills
  • Must have the ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Requires registration as a PSU student, in good academic standing

  • Federal work study students preferred

Working Conditions

Working schedule is between 8 and 20 hours per week during most weeks of the school terms, depending on availability. Employees will be working both within an office environment and at times moving across campus, including transporting items between offices. Employees may not work during scheduled class times. Employees must be registered for a minimum of 6 undergraduate and 5 graduate credits per term, excluding Summer term. General office hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. This position can be stressful during busy times such as the beginning of school terms. This position requires that employees maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 while working the UHRL Student Services Office.
