This lecture presents research conducted at the Institute of Arts at Unicamp with undergraduate trumpet students, examining the effects of a targeted physical training program on solo trumpet performance. Drawing from her background as a physiotherapist and researcher, Luciana Ronqui will discuss how aerobic conditioning, strength training and lumbopelvic stabilisation can enhance performance efficiency and reduce the risk of injury.

Recognising that the body is the musician’s first instrument, this research highlights the importance of instrument-specific physical preparation. A well-designed training protocol can help trumpeters meet the physical demands of performance more effectively, supporting endurance, control and long-term health.

The lecture will explore these findings in depth and is open to students, faculty, physiotherapists, health professionals and anyone interested in the intersection of music performance and physical health.
