Add to my Calendar 2020-12-05 12:00:00 2020-12-05 15:00:00 Portland 2020 Portland State University's Sonic Arts and Music Production's Laptop Ensemble and School of Film Experimental Production present: PORTLAND 2020 Saturday, Dec 5 @ noon  streaming live @ Holocene.org Portland State University's Sonic Arts and Music Production's Laptop Ensemble will be live streaming several new compositions including PORTLAND 2020, a film with live score created in collaboration with PSU's School of Film Experimental Production. In addition to the group collaboration, individual filmmakers partnered with members of the ensemble to create original scores for their short films. The Laptop Ensemble is an ensemble of humans, laptops, controllers, and speakers. Ensemble members both compose and perform in the ensemble, exploring computer-mediated instrument design, sound synthesis, programming, and live interactive performance. The experimental filmmakers work with archival found footage, 16mm direct animation, original live action digital and computer generated images to provide the visual elements of the program. Add to my Calendar 2020-12-09 19:00:00 2020-12-09 20:00:00 Still We Rise Part I Due to Covid-19 gathering restrictions, the 40 members of the PSU Chamber Choir could not meet as a full ensemble. Nonetheless, we persevered making music wearing masks and rehearsing mostly outdoors.  Still We Rise: Part I features a variety of smaller groups made up of members of the Portland State Chamber Choir performing music by Black, Brown and Indigenous composers including Shireen Abu-Khader, Marques Garrett, Matthew Lyon-Hazard, Frank Duarte, Samuel Taylor-Coleridge, Daphine Chibinga, Jason Harris and Remel Derick. You will also hear from many of the composers themselves. They rehearsed mostly outdoors while wearing masks. Still We Rise: Part II features these ensembles performing music white female composers and both male and female Black, Brown and Indigenous composers including Rosephanye Powell, Andrea Ramsay, Elaine Hagenberg, Alice Parker, Rebecca Parsons, Jester Hairston and Brandon Waddles. You will also hear from many of the composers themselves. This online concert will feature the music of renowned Brazilian pianist/composers Bianca and Egberto Gismonti, Cesar Camargo Mariano, Jasnam Daya Singh, and Marcos Valle. The program includes musicians from both North and South America and is hosted by Brazilian music expert and saxophonist Laura Dreyer.
