Student Learning and Licensure

PSU's College of Education purchased this comprehensive data system because it will do several things, including:

  • Enhance student advising
  • Enable students to submit important work and receive feedback online
  • Keep records on field experiences including assessments, time logs, and documentation.
  • Facilitate collaborative evaluations between instructors, supervisors, and students
  • Streamline procedures for licensure upon completion of the program

You will need access to the system in order to complete some of your course assignments and be evaluated for course and field experiences. You will use your existing PSU ODIN credentials to access the system. The system is secure and confidential; no one will have access to your files except you and your instructors and advisors. The system is user-friendly, and you will receive instruction in how to use it.

Your access will not be active until your initial term begins.

What is Student Learning and Licensure (SL&L)?

SL&L is the COE student record and assessment system. To access SL&L, each student has to have a SL&L account. Student accounts are created through their application and admission to a program, and they pay the SL&L Use Fee via a PSU charge on their account that will cover the cost of SL&L fee.

How can I access SL&L?
Students and Mentors/Cooperating Teachers can log into SL&L at sll.pdx.edu
Staff, Faculty and Supervisors can log in at staff.sll.pdx.edu

Where can I get tutorials for SL&L?
TBD

My ODIN account isn’t working for SL&L, what do I do?
Accounts are created weekly at the beginning of the term so if it’s prior to the start of the term or you registered late, your account may not be added yet. For any problems accessing your account, email help-coe-tech@pdx.edu.

What is the SL&L use fee?
The SL&L Use Fee is a one-time fee of $142 that is included in student fees. The fee is only assessed for students enrolled in  COE licensure and degree programs.

When is the fee charged?
All students admitted to a COE degree or licensure program will be charged the SL&L Use Fee to their PSU account during the first term after they are admitted. The account is created automatically. In some cases where a student is admitted late, the fee may be applied in a later term.

To whom does it apply?
All students who have applied and been admitted to a COE degree or licensure program will be assessed the fee on their PSU bill.

What if I was accidentally charged?
If you receive the COE assessment fee on your account and feel it was inaccurately applied, please email help-coe-tech@pdx.edu.

How we use SL&L

How do students use SL&L?
Students use SL&L to electronically submit assignments to their instructors and receive feedback.  SL&L is also a part of the field experience component for students in licensure and Counseling programs by facilitating assessments, time logs and completion of all aspects of your field placement in a central location. All student work that is uploaded into SL&L remains there. SL&L accounts also offer the option to create an electronic portfolio.

How does the COE use SL&L?
The COE uses SL&L to collect the assignment scores students receive. These assignment scores are reviewed by the licensure office to determine whether to recommend licensure to program graduates. The field placement office uses SL&L to track field placements. The assessment data input by faculty are reviewed in the aggregate for program improvement. The COE also reports this aggregated data, without student information, for state and national accreditation purposes. SL&L supports COE-wide assessment work toward continuous program improvement and ongoing national and state accreditation.
