Annual Assessment Report

2020 Systematic Program Evaluation Annual Report

Comprehensive Assessment Plan

As part of our CACREP accreditation the Counselor Education department engages in continuous systematic program evaluation. This occurs annually at our fall faculty retreat and at department meetings two times a month during the academic year. Our evaluation plan focuses on program assessment and student learning outcomes. Assessment of our programs are conducted at key transition points every year. Key program assessments occur at:

  • New Student Orientation (annual student survey)
  • First year Group Prac/Personal Growth Group (Pre/Post student survey each term)
  • Peer Supervision Assessment (two year assessment project)
  • Exit Survey (annual student survey)
  • Alumni survey (annual student survey)
  • Site Supervisor and Graduate Employer Survey (every 3-5 years)
  • NCE results comparing our students against other CACREP students, non-CACREP students, and National results

Student learning outcomes of professional identity, professional practice, and program area standards are assessed by:

  • Key assignments in select courses
  • Practicum and internship evaluations
  • Annual review by core faculty of all first year students
  • Annual review by core faculty of all second year students between practicum and internship placements
  • NCE results assessing our students’ scores across the CACREP areas

After any program evaluation and assessment of student learning and performance has occurred, a data review form is completed. The results of the assessment as well as course/program modifications are discussed in department faculty meetings.

Our assessment results (see links below) include exit and alumni surveys, site supervisor and graduate employer surveys, and summaries of key assessments used to modify curricular offerings and program structure. Our assessment plans are summarized for each program (Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling, School Counseling, and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling) on curricular maps (see below).
