Aquatics and Safety

The aquatics center inside the Rec Center includes a 6-lane 25-yard pool and a 10-person spa. Lap swimming, swim clinics, private swim lessons, youth swim lessons, a Masters Swim program and aquatic fitness classes are all offered throughout the year.

Announcements and Events

Aquatics will be discontinuing private lessons for youth and adults.  Lessons can be purchased through June 15, 2012 and must be used by August 24th.  Swim clinics and youth group lessons will continue to be offered.

Swim Options

  • Lap swim (minimum of 3 lanes available during all lap swim hours). A priority lane is available during scheduled lap swim times for persons needing accommodations. Please let the lifeguard on duty know if you are going to utilize the priority lane to ensure it is clear.
  • Open swim - half pool & full pool - during half pool, three lanes are available for recreational swimming and three for lap swimming.  During full pool, then entire pool is dedicated to recreational swimming (i.e. water basketball, playing around)

Fitness Classes

Fitness offers a variety of Group X classes including water fitness. Click to see the current Group X schedule.

Swimming Lessons

Private swim lessons are offered for both adult and youth clients. Click here for more information.

Swim Clinics

Swim clinics include up to 5 participants who all want to work on a specific aspect of swimming whether that be becoming comfortable in the water, perfecting front crawl or learing butterfly. Participants receive specialized instruction on swim strokes in a small group setting for an incredibly subsidized rate. Masters Swim Program

Members of the ASRC are welcome to become members of the Portland State Masters Swim Program. Free for the first month, $12/month after first month, Oregon Masters Swimmer membership required after first month  To find out how to join and the benefits of the program, click here.

Other program includes:

  • Youth Swim - Structured to promote children comfort level in the water and build a foundation of basic aquatic skills.
  • Kayak roll sessions - offered through the Outdoor Program, takes place in the pool
  • CREC special events - including Dive-in Movies, family events, etc.
