About the Department of Housing & Residence Life

Living on campus at Portland State is a convenient and viable way to access the city of Portland and the PSU campus.
Portland State University, and the Department of Housing & Residence Life, operates within five guiding themes: to provide civic leadership through partnerships, improve student success, achieve global excellence, enhance educational opportunity, expand resources and improve effectiveness. This has brought a renewed focus on expanding the University’s civic partnerships in the region and achieving a new degree of excellence within Student Affairs. Most recently, our department was awarded the 2011 Educational Benchmarking Commitment to Excellence Award through the ACUHO-I/EBI Resident Assessment.
The Department of Housing & Residence Life also has solid commitments to sustainability and diversity. On campus housing boasts an international student population of as much as 21%, with students coming to Portland from 49 countries around the world. The newest residential buildings on campus, Stephen Epler Hall and Broadway Hall, both have LEED certifications that feature on site recycling, secure bike rooms, concrete floors, water-saver bathrooms and laundry rooms, and energy saving electricity.
