One of the fastest growing ensembles at the School of Music is the Portland State University Band. Led by Pat Vandehey, an experienced music instructor and adjudicator, the band emphasizes relationship-building among students and learning classic music repertoire. If you are interested in joining the University band as a music major, auditions are held in the fall.

Concert Band

The PSU Concert Band is our largest band, and is open to players of all abilities. Students in the Concert Band are arranged in sections, with multiple instruments on every part. This ensemble is a great option for non-performance majors to earn their large ensemble credits while performing with a fun and diverse group of musicians.

Wind Symphony

The PSU Wind Symphony is our advanced band ensemble, and requires a greater degree of independence and dedication from it's members. Focused on an ambitious, adventurous repertoire, the Wind Symphony frequently collaborates with our Choirs and other ensembles within the School of Music & Theater.

 Pat Vandehey
