The Noon Concert Series is a weekly opportunity to experience the sounds of the PSU School of Music & Theater. Join us on Thursdays during fall, winter, and spring terms for a diverse program of concerts featuring students, faculty, and special guests. 

The general public is welcome in Lincoln Hall to watch the series live. You'll also be able to watch each concert on PSU's YouTube channel with the links below, but students enrolled in MUS188 are required to attend in person.

Chinese New Year lion for Noon Concert Series

January 26 - Lunar New Year - A Celebration

Students, faculty and guest musicians jointly perform instrumental and vocal music from Asian countries that celebrate the Lunar New Year, which will fall on January 22, 2023.

February 2 - Harmonic Canon

Arx Music presents "Harmonic Canon" by Dominic Murcott. Created in collaboration with sculptor Marcus Vergette, The Harmonic Canon is both the name of the piece and the double bell that was custom-made for it. Learn more at the link below.

A clarinet Noon Concert Series

February 9 - Three Ladies - Three Clarinets - Three Nations

Join us for a colorful concert full of clarinet music, performanced by PSU Clarinet Professor Barbara Heilmair and guest clarinetists Virginia Figueiredo and Ling Hang. PSU faculty Kerry Politzer and Chuck Dillard will collaborate in the program playing piano.

Noah Simpson Noon Concert Series

February 16 - Noah Simpson Quartet

Noah Simpson, a graduate of the PSU Jazz program, has become one of the best and busiest trumpeters on the Portland jazz scene. He will present a quartet that will play jazz standards and original, thought provoking compositions.

Sherry Alves - Brazilian Quartet Noon Concert Series

February 23 - Sherry Alves Brazilian Quartet

THIS EVENT IS CANCELED DUE TO THE WINTER STORM. The Sherry Alves Brazilian Quartet features Brazilian musicians Cassio Vianna and Wagner Trindade, collaborating with Oregon natives Sherry Alves and Jason Palmer. Their work blends bossa-nova, samba and baião in a jazzistic style. Learn more at the below link.

March 2 - PSU Student Chamber Music

PSU School of Music & Theater students in a concert featuring small ensembles. Working with faculty coaches in every instrumental area, these musicians have created duos, trios, and larger ensembles and will perform a varied program featuring great pieces of chamber music.

Music faculty Tomás Cotik and Susan Chan perform two iconic sonatas for violin and piano by César Franck and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

SAMPLE Laptop Ensemble musicians for Noon Concert Series

March 16 - SAMPLE laptop ensemble

The PSU Laptop Ensemble, SAMPLe, is an ensemble of humans, laptops, controllers, and speakers. SAMPLe presents a collaborative concert showcasing compositions exploring computer-mediated instruments, sound synthesis programming, and live interactive performance.
