PSU School of Music & Theater Percussion Ensemble recently collaborated with Portland’s Tapspace Publications to record and release an audio and video performance of “Starfall” by James Vilseck, a complex, ethereal composition for mallet quintet and piano. The video recording accompanies the sheet music on Tapspace’s website. Watch the video and learn more.

Percussion Ensemble director Dr. Christopher Whyte knows the importance of students having the opportunity to interact with professionals in their industry. As a professional musician himself, Chris regularly leverages PSU’s position in Portland’s cultural community to connect Portland State percussion students to real-life experiences in the contemporary music scene.

Some of those real-world experiences include performances and events, open to the public, featuring PSU's Percussion students and faculty during Winter term. We invite you to join us to learn more about the Percussion area at PSU by attending the following events:

January 23-25 - Sit-in on PSU Percussion ensemble practice or classes as part of the School of Music & Theater's Scholarship Week Open House

January 30 - Wind Ensemble Concert includes percussion students

February 2 - Harmonic Cannon

February 10 - Portland Winter Lights Festival Percussion Performance

March 14 - PSU Percussion Ensemble Concert
