The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at Portland State University presents What Remains: 2026 BFA/MFA Exhibition, an exhibition of work from the 2026 graduates of the BFA in Art Practice and MFA in Contemporary Art Practices Programs of the PSU Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design.
The exhibition will run from May 14 to June 6, 2026, with a public reception on Thursday, May 14, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the JSMA at PSU.
What Remains highlights work by 47 students across disciplines, including photography, painting, sculpture, performance, mixed-media installations, textiles, and publications. Notably, Jaleesa Johnston, Curatorial Coordinator at the Portland Art Museum, provides insights into the connections among the participating artists and their works in the exhibition catalog:
“All of these artworks are layered, sifted through the personal, political, historical, and social, while simultaneously stretched through process, material, and technique. During my brief discussion with each artist, I was inspired by the raw honesty with which they approached their practice– even if that honesty wasn’t always uplifting or certain about itself. Their inquiries and truths made me reflect on what I perceive to be the edges of “this human experience” (and whatever that may mean).” - Jalessa Johnston, 2026
Additional BFA and MFA student art installations will also be presented during the exhibition at the Sugar Cube Gallery (1990 SW 5th Avenue), the AB and MK Galleries (2000 SW 5th Avenue), and Fans Only (1010 SW 11th Avenue). Visitors can also attend gallery talks by exhibiting students at JSMA at PSU; these will take place during the exhibition at scheduled times:
- May 19–May 21, 1:30-4:00 pm
- May 26–May 28, 1:30-4:00 pm
- June 2–June 4, 1:30-4:00 pm
