Due to project delays, the project sponsors of the EAB Navigate to Slate Transition project have decided to adjust the launch approach. Instead of a full launch at the start of Fall term, a phased rollout of Slate will be implemented with a full launch on December 15th. The milestone roadmap has been updated to reflect these changes. More targeted and detailed communications will be shared as these milestones approach.

Updated Slate Migration Rollout Plan:

  • October 13 - October 31: Training and pilot sessions for the UPGAP pathway advisors
  • November 3 - November 21: Training for all current EAB Navigate users
  • December 15: Official Slate launch for all current EAB Navigate users
    • Includes: appointment scheduling, notes, swipe tracking, Early Alerts, “Deliver” feature, and data querying

Important notes:

  • Early Alerts in Fall term will take place through EAB Navigate.
  • EAB Navigate use and data entry may continue until December 12.
  • Starting November 24, a transition period will begin during which EAB Navigate will stop accepting appointments.
  • Starting on December 15, EAB Navigate users within graduate schools and colleges will be able to make notes on student records in Slate, but appointment scheduling will be limited to Undergraduate programs initially.
  • The onboarding process for new departments in EAB Navigate remains paused.

As part of our ongoing commitment to streamline operations and enhance student support, PSU is transitioning from EAB Navigate to Slate, with a full migration planned by August 2025. This change is necessary as the EAB Navigate contract will expire on December 31, 2025. Over the next several months, The Office of Student Success and The Office of Information Technology will work closely with Carnegie Higher Education, who will remain engaged for 12 months post-launch to address outstanding milestones and feature requests—ensuring a smooth and successful transition.

What’s Changing?

By August 2025, our goals include:

  • Transitioning current EAB Navigate functionality to Slate
    • Including but not limited to undergraduate appointment scheduling, notes, and the Early Alert system
  • Onboarding all current EAB Navigate users into Slate
    • Users will be granted access equivalent to their current EAB permissions
    • All PSU faculty and advisors will be able to view and write notes on undergraduate and graduate student profiles
  • Supporting the transition of Student Success units
  • Preparing faculty and staff for the impacts of this system change

It’s important to note that no changes to existing systems will occur until August 2025. EAB Navigate will remain operational and supported through the end of 2025. In the meantime, we ask all teams who use EAB Navigate to refrain from developing any new processes that rely on its functionality, and no new departments will be onboarded.

Why Move to Slate?

This move brings significant benefits to the university. Financially, it represents a cost savings of $110,000 annually—EAB Navigate currently costs $140,000 per year, while Slate costs just $30,000. Operationally, transitioning to Slate allows us to standardize and centralize our technologies, driving greater efficiency across student support units. As PSU invests in Slate as its enterprise CRM, we gain a more comprehensive view of the student journey, ultimately enabling more cohesive and personalized support.

What About My Data?

All EAB Navigate data will be exported. We are currently in the discovery phase to determine exactly what data will be imported into Slate. We’ll share more details as those decisions are finalized.

Training Timeline

Training for Slate will begin at the end of summer. Stay tuned for official dates and registration details.
