Current Students

We're here to help as you navigate your MME undergraduate and graduate programs!  Here are some pertinent 'things you need to know' for optimal success:

Advising

Once students matriculate into any MME program, advising is conducted through the Department.  BSME students meet with the MME Undergraduate Advisor to evaluate degree progression.  Any student with questions about transfer credit, course plan options, or other concerns are welcome to schedule an appointment at: https://tretdc.youcanbook.me.

Graduate students will be assigned an initial advisor for first term advising and are expected to establish a permanent advisor by the conclusion of the second term. More information can be found under Advising & Committees.

Undergraduate Tutoring

Tutoring is held every term and is split into two focus areas: Design/Manufacturing and Thermal/Fluids. These subject areas are meant to cover the various core courses that are offered every term and open to all undergraduate students enrolled in an MME course. Collaborative tutoring may also be available, which combines both Design/Manufacturing and Thermal/Fluid subject matter.

Tutoring hours vary each term, so be sure to check tutoring flyers and announcements.

***Attention***

Due to COVID-19, Spring 2020 tutoring will be held remotely through a Q&A Google Group and Zoom. Students will need to subscribe to the MME Tutoring Google Group to access the Q&A Forum and Zoom links.

Grades

These are the minimum grades needed to pass a course within MME:

  • Selective Admission Courses:  C
  • Upper-Division Courses and non-selective admissions courses:  D-
  • Graduate Courses:  B-

All courses must be completed with a letter grade. P/NP grades are not accepted.

Registration Troubleshooting

It is common for students to receive error messages when attempting to register for classes. Banweb, the PSU registration system, does not always recognize transferred or substitute courses when performing prerequisite checks. If this occurs, please complete the MME Course Override Request Form.  Our staff reviews requests with frequency and will be in touch shortly with a response.  Be sure to login to your PDX Gmail account to access this form.

Internships & Scholarships

Frank Goovaerts, Director of Student Career Success, is an excellent point person for jobs and internship opportunities.  He also hosts workshops to share tips for resume and interview preparation.

Full-time students are also eligible for various scholarships & fellowships.

Machine Shop

Get in early; get in often! Here's information on Machine Shop Access.  Do not wait until capstone to become familiar with the equipment.
