Admission Requirements
Master’s & Graduate Certificate
Applicants to Strategic Management of Technology, Project Management, and New Product Management Graduate Certificate programs; and Engineering Technology Management Master's Program must meet the following requirements:
- Eligible for admission to Portland State University
- Have earned a four-year baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in engineering or a related discipline.
- At least four years of experience in engineering or related discipline.
- A background in Statistics or Probability, such as an undergraduate course.
Applicants who are judged to have high potential can be admitted, even if their past academic performance and length of professional experience do not fully meet the requirements.
Conditional admission is possible with a cumulative undergraduate GPA between 2.50 and 2.74.
Doctorate
Consideration may be given to applicants who have not satisfied all of the conditions above if they are judged to have a higher potential than reflected by their past academic performance and professional experience.
Deadlines
The Engineering & Technology Management Department admits Master's and Graduate Certificate Program students in any term. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and decisions are sent via email within 6-8 weeks of receiving a completed application. To ensure your planned start date, send in your fully completed application by the deadlines below (International students, plan 6-9 months ahead).
PhD Program students are admitted for Fall and Spring term only.

Application Materials
Below is the list of the materials and information you will need to provide as part of your application. We recommend preparing these materials in advance of submitting your application.
- Resume or CV including any supervised field experiences, student teaching, or practicum.
- Statement of Purpose: Describe your educational goals and career objectives in 1 - 2 pages (upload as a pdf in the application). Explain how the Department of Engineering and Technology Management will contribute to them.
- Contact Information for Three References.
- Doctoral Applicants Only: Submit an essay (1-2 pages) responding to the prompt below. You must write your essay and upload it in your application as either a PDF or Word document.
- Ph.D. Essay Prompt: Describe your research interests, including what types of models you envision, and what kind of data you might need in your Ph.D. research.
