Frank & Ken Summer Undergraduate Research Program

Frank and Ken Summer Undergraduate Research Program

Generous ECE alumni, Frankwell Lin and Ken Li, has provided funding to support student research experience. We invite students freshmen year up through sophomore year, who are admitted to PSU with a stated ECE major to apply for this enriching program.
This program is open for all students who have been admitted to PSU, will be taking courses at PSU fall term, and who have not taken ECE 300-level courses (eligible is taking ECE 300-level courses in Fall). You will be paired with an ECE faculty member who will provide both a research experience and mentorship for academic development.

Students taking more than 4 credits in Summer term are not eligible.

Each internship will pay $5,000 for 8 weeks of full-time work experience, between June 24th and August 23rd, 2024, with a commitment of at least one day on site per week to meet with the internship advisor.  There are no prerequisites for this program, the only requirement is to be an admitted PSU student with a declared ECE major up to the start of your 300 level ECE courses.

First-generation students and people who are historically underrepresented in electrical and computer engineering are strongly encouraged to apply. The deadline for Summer 2024 is April 30th.

Summer 2023 Student Researchers said:

"I got to learn the fundamentals of what it takes to be in electrical engineering. I learned a lot from design reviewing to testing, and it is all that I hoped for in this internship."

"Summer is a great opportunity for student researchers to get a lot of work done. It's obvious passion and curiosity succeed in research over knowledge or talent. The later things come with experience. Last but not least, it was a good chance to practice work-life balance and experience the research lifestyle."

"I found research is a good example of long-term gratification, as the results you work for tend to fail or show error more than success. It's nice to celebrate small goals regularly. It also is important to document your work well if you want incoming student researchers to do well."
