We offer all sorts of options for you to get involved with the engineering and computer science community at Portland State University.
Our student organizations vary from collaborative projects like launching Oregon's first cube satellite to boldly celebrating inclusivity and identity through professional development programming. Student Organizations

American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES)
American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) is a national, nonprofit organization focused on substantially increasing the representation of American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, First Nations and other indigenous peoples of North America in STEM.

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
The mission of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is to enhance the quality of life worldwide by advancing professional knowledge and improving the practice of civil engineering in service to humanity. PSU's chapter competes every year in both the steel bridge and concrete canoe competition.

American Water Works Association (AWWA)
(Currently inactive) The American Water Works Association (AWWA) is a resource for people to join together and help protect public health and safety by providing clean water for all. PSU's student chapter is aimed to connect students with professionals and learn about the vast resources we have here in the Pacific Northwest.

American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers
American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), founded in 1894, is a global society advancing human well-being through sustainable technology for the built environment. The PSU ASHRAE chapter provides students with educational and professional networking opportunities.

Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
The Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) is a non-profit organization devoted to science and education related to computing. The PSU ACM branch encourages Computer Science students to work together to form professional and personal bonds that will serve them now and after graduation.

ChickTech: College Student Chapter
Meet ChickTech's inaugural college student chapter! Started in early 2018, ChickTech at PSU is a pioneering student group that supports the mission of ChickTech, a national organization that serves thousands of girls and women every year through tech programs and events.

Computer Action Team - Braindump
In addition to providing computer support, the Computer Action Team also runs an apprentice-style training program called the Braindump. Experts in the field pass on their knowledge and experience to student volunteers, providing hands-on training opportunities and access to a thriving community and professional network.

Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI)
The mission of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute student chapter is to increase earthquake awareness, provide opportunity for leadership, and to promote future involvement among students.

Engineers Without Borders (EWB)
Engineers Without Borders is a non-profit humanitarian organization that partners with developing communities worldwide in order to improve their quality of life. Our projects involve the implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while involving and training internationals responsible engineers and engineering students.

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE - pronounced "eye-triple-E") helps advance global prosperity by promoting technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity and the engineering profession.

Maseeh College Ambassadors
The Maseeh College Ambassadors are a team of engineering and computer science students who lead tours, lab visits, and hands-on activities for the purpose of visualizing STEM in action and the diverse people who do it.

Mechanical Engineering Laboratory Team (MELT)
The Mechanical Engineering Laboratory Team is a group of Mechanical & Materials Engineering students who seek to develop their ability in manufacturing, assembly, instrumentation and testing of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
The National Society of Black Engineers student chapter at PSU seeks to support the mission of NSBE nationally to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. Questions? Contact: nsbe.pdx@gmail.com

Portland State Aerospace Society (PSAS)
The Portland State Aerospace Society is a non-profit aerospace project at Portland State University comprised of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff of PSU, and local community members - ranging from high school students to engineers in industry - who are interested in aerospace engineering.

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers works toward improving the diversity of STEM field. The local chapter hopes to increase involvement and retention of Hispanic and other underrepresented groups in all STEM majors, with an emphasis on Engineering and Computer Science.

Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
The Society of Women Engineers is a non-profit, educational service organization of graduate engineers, women and men, dedicated to the advancement of women in the engineering professions. The local chapter helps students make contacts, cultivate friendships, and network with local engineering professionals.

Students in Transportation Engineering and Planning (STEP)
The Institute of Transportation Engineers is an international individual member transportation organization. ITE has 15,000 members working in more than 80 countries. PSU's Students in Transportation Engineering and Planning (STEP) chapter engages its members in relevant transportation issues and and activities.

We in Computer Science (WiCS)
We in Computer Science celebrates diversity and provides networking and support to communities historically underrepresented in Computer Science including LGBTQIA+ people, women, gender non-conforming, first-generation immigrants, people of color, and disabled people.

Viking Motorsports (VMS)
The main purpose of Viking Motorsports is to compete in the international Formula SAE competition. This entails designing, validating, and building an open-wheel formula-style race car in a team that is run like a small business. The team travels to Lincoln, Nebraska for a yearly competition against schools from other universities.

Viking Robotics Society (VRS)
The Viking Robotics Society (VRS) aims to provide PSU students and the Portland Metro community with opportunities to build and learn about robotics through hands-on projects, participation in competitions, and collaborations with on-campus labs. VRS challenges its members to take on a more modern approach in the field of robotics.
