About This Program
Human Resource Management is a rapidly growing field that is playing an increasingly important role in helping companies cultivate a positive work culture, drive employee productivity, and achieve organizational goals. HR professionals are employed in a wide variety of industries and can develop their HR careers in organizations of all sizes.

CEPE’s HR Management Certificate program is ideal for individuals who are interested in starting or advancing their HR careers, and offers a strong foundation in the HR discipline while giving participants practical tools and takeaways that are immediately applicable in the workplace. All courses in the HR Management Certificate program are approved as HR-related continuing education activities by Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) and Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

What You’ll Learn
Upon completion of this program, students will have gained the knowledge to:

  • Understand the philosophy and function of the HR discipline;
  • Become familiar with laws that protect employees: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1991;
  • Understand and define the role of compensation and benefits as part of a total rewards system;
  • Become familiar with state and federal labor and civil rights laws governing the employer-employee relationship;
  • Apply talent acquisition strategies and retain key talent at all levels;
  • Diagnose and manage organizational conflict and administer appropriate resolutions.

Courses may be taken individually and in any order unless otherwise noted.
If pursuing the certificate, all courses in the certificate program must be completed within three years. A recommended sequence is below.

Core Courses (All 4 are required)

  • BH101: Management of Human Resources
    • This course provides a broad exploration of the HR discipline and examines the key competencies of an HR professional across different functional areas.
  • BH302: Employee and Labor Relations
    • This course provides an overview of the important subject of employee and labor relations in a historical context, and explores the federal and state laws and regulations governing the employer-employee relationship.
  • BH102: Basic Principles of EEO
    • This course provides an overview of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) law and theories of unlawful discrimination in the workplace.
  • BH103: Compensation
    • This course offers an overview of base-pay compensation and focuses on the purpose, foundation, and practice of compensation design and its application in the workplace.

  • BH314: Talent Acquisition, Selection, and Retention
    • This course leads participants through the talent acquisition process, focusing on
      selection principles, retention applications, and best practices to onboard and retain
      talent at all levels.
  • BH206: Effective Training Design and Evaluation
    • This course examines the latest instructional design trends and gives students the resources and practical tools necessary to develop and evaluate their own in-house training.
  • BH210: Influence and Leadership: Skills for HR Professionals
    • This course shows participants how to identify and develop their own leadership abilities while aligning HR initiatives with the goals and values of the organization to ensure superior outcomes.
  • BH435: Conflict Resolution for HR Professionals
    • In this course, participants develop the practitioner skills they will need to diagnose and manage interpersonal conflict, clarify organizational values, and select appropriate interventions to develop solutions.
  • BH311: Benefits Management
    • This course offers a comprehensive overview of employee benefits and focuses on important elements of a complete employee benefits program that can be fully integrated into a total compensation system.
  • BH455: Finance for HR Professionals
    • This course will help participants understand key financial concepts and learn how each can increase employee productivity and drive organizational performance.

  • BH457: aPHR and BH458: PHR Exam Prep Boot Camps
    • These online courses are designed by subject matter experts and include
      discussion questions, case studies, and practice quizzes, as well as test-taking
      skills, to help students prepare for the PHR® and aPHR® exams.
