Sarah(í) Alvarez is a trans-disciplinary artist born in New Jersey and raised on a computer. Meeting their cousins via VHS tapes sent from Cuba, lurking in hyper-niche online forums, and working in DIY music scenes around the U.S. inform their counter-archival (or "scrappy") approach to teaching, learning, and making.
In their scholarship, Alvarez researches technological disobedience, vernacular design, and the subsequent emergence of new interactions between the biological and the technological. As an artistic response, they use digital and physical assemblage to map relationships between the material worlds living within and away from the screen.
