Laura DiTrapani

Laura DiTrapani has been making award-winning independent films, educational shorts, and commercials since 1989. Her diverse films have been screened all over the world in numerous festivals including Annecy International, Hiroshima, and the Sundance Film Festival. Her unique style blends live-action, photo collage, and hand-drawn imagery to create worlds of meta-reality.

"I am fascinated by the power of metaphor to elucidate concepts and explore ideas from unique angles. Animation provides a perfect bridge between our perception of the real world and the inner world of our dreams, fears, and ideas. And like reality, it is never static."

Born in New York City, Laura studied filmmaking and photography at the New School before settling in the Pacific Northwest. DiTrapani is currently teaching Animation, Visual Storytelling, and Animation History at Portland State University.
