Dr. Paul Loikith is the Interim Director of ISS as of August 2024. Paul is an atmospheric scientist with a background in weather and climate science and an expert on weather and climate extremes across the Portland region and the greater Pacific Northwest. His research involves understanding the atmospheric drivers of high-impact weather and climate phenomena, such as heat waves and atmospheric rivers, and how global warming is causing them to change. He directs the Portland State Climate Science Lab, housed in the Department of Geography, which includes a group of students and affiliated climate science researchers.

Originally from New Jersey, Paul has an MS in Meteorology and a PhD in Atmospheric Science from Rutgers University. Prior to joining PSU in 2015, he was a Caltech postdoctoral scholar at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

On a Saturday, you will likely find Paul putting in lots of miles, hiking or running, on trails in the Pacific Northwest.
