  1. Sebastian Busby, former PSU PhD student and currently a postdoc with the USFS, just had a new paper of his dissertation accepted for publication in the prestigious journal Ecosphere.
  2. Marc Chenard, Computer Science Master’s student, said his honor thesis compiling neuroscience research led to the implementation of a later start time at Vancouver Public Schools.
  3. Owen Christofferson, Sara Goldstein, Nick Hadfield, Zhouheng (Brian) Liu, Jenny Mazzella and Victoria Young, students in the Master of Urban & Regional Planning program, received an award from the Council of University Transportation Centers for partnering with the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation for their project creating a multi-use trail in the community. The PSU team is the first to win the new CUTC Graduate-Level Student Group Award.
  4. Anne Johnson, Sociology Ph.D. student, won Portland State’s 3 Minute Thesis competition with a speech titled “‘Just Get Ready’: A Qualitative Study of Law Enforcement Phlebotomy in the US.” Anne is already preparing for the regionals in March!
  5. Nancy Pelayo-Colores, Master of Architecture student, was named the 2023 Hatfield Scholar in recognition of her work with underrepresented communities in the field of architecture.
  6. Hannah Sean Ellefritz, Sociology Ph.D. student, presented, “School-Based Health Centers and Mental Health Stigma Before and During the Pandemic” at the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) 2023 Fall Research Conference.
  7. Hannah Sean Ellefritz, Sociology Ph.D. student, presented, “College Outcomes for Young Adults with a Learning Disability, ADHD, or Neither” at the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) 2023 Fall Research Conference.
  8. Pieter VandenBerge, recent Mathematical Sciences Ph.D. graduate, received a prestigious postdoctoral position with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Research Associateship Programs. He will continue his research in collaboration with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory.
  9. Eight neuroscience minor undergraduate members of the PSU Neuroscience Club went to Washington, DC to present original posters at the Society for Neuroscience conference, support a free public Neuroscience Night, present to the House Neuroscience and STEAM caucuses in the U.S. House of Representatives, and hear from K-8 students in DC public schools.
  10. The PSU Neuroscience Club traveled with NW Noggin to Salem in February for a Senate hearing on permanent standard time, to speak about relevant brain research on the benefits for community and mental health.
