Program Status: Implementation

As part of the EPIC@PSU initiatives through the Student Success division, this project will develop and host Professional Development  (PD) workshops for faculty and graduate students to increase best practices in inclusive pedagogy.  The structure of the proposed project is partly in response to requests by previous faculty participants to learn about additional  strategies designed to promote belonging and increase inclusivity in classrooms. This includes evidence-based strategies such as opportunities for syllabus revisions to promote growth mindset, as well as small, immediately implementable strategies. Participants will continue engagement and reflection,  and share lessons learned with peers through Community of Practice (CoP) meetings.

This project is Inspired by other university programs on teaching excellence, such as  Boise State University’s Ten for Teaching program, and is influenced by programs such as KU’s Center for Teaching Excellence and frameworks such as the Teaching Quality Framework at CU Boulder and our neighbors, Oregon State University’s Quality Teaching Framework.  Our aim is to provide the space, time, and incentive for faculty and graduate student groups to begin to co-create and define what excellence and quality teaching at PSU can look like. We will leverage our HHMI Inclusive Excellence (ie3) grant to incentivize faculty and graduate students  to participate in PD opportunities.

Accomplished

  • Considerable interest has been generated, resulting in the selection of 19 faculty members and 29 graduate students to participate in Spring term.
  • Solidified the participant incentives for faculty and graduate students.

In Progress
