Advising Assessment - NACADA Report

Program Status: Implementation

In an effort to improve the advising structure and services at PSU, Advising and Career Services (ACS) is engaging in an external program review led by fellows from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) to ensure that ACS meets the needs of students and the institution.

Accomplished

  • Finalized Project Charter and retrieved signatures.
  • Internal assessment workgroup composed of ACS volunteers worked through CAS assessment and drafted definition of Academic Advising:
    • Presented definition to ACS community for feedback (Jan. 5th).
    • Shared with Academic Advising Council for feedback (Feb. 23rd).
  • NACADA fellows visited PSU and conducted an external program review of advising (Nov. 28th- 29th), meeting with 14 focus groups comprised of students, faculty, advisors, and student services to discuss the strengths, challenges, and ways to improve the current advising system.
    • Sought alternative ways to provide feedback for those invited and unable to attend focus groups - 11 responses received.
  • NACADA published an external assessment report which outlined 11 recommendations for consideration.
    • Sought anonymous feedback on the Report and recommendations from PSU Community - 16 responses received as of 2/16/24.
    • ACS Leadership Team drafted responses to recommendations with recommended next steps.
    • Communicated updates on Student Success Website

In Progress

  • Review of NACADA report and their findings, synthesize, and prioritize feedback from PSU community.
  • Academic Advising Council will review and plan implementation of recommendations, discussing ways to engage the PSU community.
  • Internal assessment workgroup, with input from AAC and Advising Community, developing drafts of Advising Mission, Values, and Position statements.
  • Continue to communicate updates on Student Success Website.
