Apply for Financial Aid

The FSAID establishes your electronic identity with the Department of Education. Your FSAID will be used to sign all your financial aid documentation, including your FAFSA. Once you have set up your FSAID you can reuse it every year to file your FAFSA.

• Visit StudentAid.gov to create your FSA ID. 
• You’ll need your Social Security number, full name, and date of birth. 
• You’ll also need to create a memorable username and password, and complete challenge questions and answers so you can retrieve your account information if you forget it. 

You’ll be required to provide either your email address or your mobile phone number when you make your FSA ID. Providing a mobile phone number and/or email address that you have access to will make it easier to log in to ED online systems and allow additional account recovery options. 

Important: A Social Security number, email address, and mobile phone number can only be associated with one FSA ID. If you share an email address with someone else, then only one of you will be able to use that email address to create an FSA ID.

The FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. You have to submit a FAFSA if you want to receive federal or state grants, loans, or Work Study. It is important to file the FAFSA as early as possible. The FAFSA should take about an hour to file. Make sure you have your financial information, like 1099s and W2s from two years ago. Having them on hand will help complete the FAFSA quickly. Be sure to hold on to these copies, in case we need to collect them from you later.

PSU’s Deadline to Submit the FAFSA: 

• Incoming Students (as early as possible, but no later than June 15)
• Continuing Students: February 1

To qualify for financial aid, you must be admitted to PSU. To be able to be eligible to apply for scholarships you must have submitted an application to PSU. Once you have been accepted to PSU, we will be able to link your FAFSA with you academic record and make a financial aid offer.

It is important that you set up your PSU Student (Odin) Account as soon as possible. Once you have activated your account, check your new pdx.edu email account at least once per week to make sure you don’t miss important university information from PSU.

Students and their families are often required to submit additional documentation (such as tax documents, household information, and signed written statements) to the financial aid office. You will be notified of any outstanding documentation and what you need to do, via your PSU email account. If you receive additional instructions from the financial aid office, respond as quickly as possible. If you do not respond in a timely fashion, your financial aid may be delayed and you could lose access to some funds.

Once your award is ready, we will notify you via your PSU email account.
