We are happy to announce that Matt Chorpenning has been promoted as the new MSW Online Program Coordinator.

Matt Chorpenning first arrived at PSU as a graduate student in 2011. He went on to complete his MSW in 2013.

He has served as a research fellow both during and after grad school, as an adjunct faculty member, a fixed term faculty member, a full-time assistant professor of practice and now he's excited to serve as the coordinator for our online MSW program! Matt has served on multiple university-wide committees including faculty senate, where he will serve on the Steering Committee this year, and on our Graduate Council where he was proud to be part of a work group focused on graduate student mental health last year. This year, he also has the honor of serving on the board of the UPRISE Collective, which was founded by two MSW graduates who were in the very first class he taught at PSU.

Matt is interested in community organizing, abolitionist social work, racial equity, and policy advocacy and research. Most of his research work has been community-initiated or partnered and has focused on racial equity and public policy around community safety and housing rights.

Matt's been playing the guitar for almost 30 years (usually loud and bad) and he's in a band with his computer called Riot Dog. He also loves to cook, read, play tabletop RPGs (although he don't often have time for that these days), hike, bike, run, and recover from running.
