Interpersonal Process Groups
Monday 3:30-5pm, Fridays 10-11:30am, Fridays 1-2:30pm
These groups require a referral from a Counseling Services therapist following an initial consultation appointment.
Group therapy is an ideal setting where students can work on personal growth, develop insight about interpersonal relationship patterns, and receive support and feedback from peers. Process groups promote greater self-awareness, authenticity, and provide a safe environment in which to practice new behaviors. Groups are facilitated by two leaders and are offered throughout the year. A pre-group interview is required for participation.

Overcoming Social Anxiety Group* | Date/Time: TBD
This group is for students who struggle with social confidence, worry about social interactions, and feel self-conscious in social contexts. Group members will have the opportunity to practice establishing new relationships and positive connections, drawing on their natural strengths, and gaining a more accurate perception of self and others.
Applying Mindfulness to your Life* | Mondays 3-4:15pm
A workshop for students interested in learning mindfulness concepts and developing/strengthening mindfulness-based coping skills for dealing with stress, anxiety or depression. Interested participants are highly encouraged to attend all sessions.
Students with Children Support Group* | Thursdays, 12-1:15pm
This is a group for PSU students who have children and would like increased support for the unique challenges of balancing school and parenting. This group is open to any student parent in the PSU community and welcomes those that are parenting without a co-parent, queer parent(s) and/or anyone who considers themselves to be in a parenting role.
Students of Color Support Group* | Tuesdays, 2:30-4pm
In this group, participants will explore individual experiences, learn self-care strategies, and find solidarity, connection, and community within a safe and supportive environment. Topics may include academic concerns, first-generation experiences, family issues, racism/microaggressions, intersectionality, imposter syndrome, as well as the impact of national/local events on emotional health.
Cinematherapy Group: Identity* | Date/Time: TBD
The goals of group cinematherapy are to foster individual and interpersonal growth in group participants through viewing of films that act as opportunities to broaden experience, provoke reflection, and prompt possibilities for change. The Spring term series seeks to promote group and individual goals centered on the topic of IDENTITY through insight, shared experience, and social connection.
International Students Support Group* | Date/Time: TBD
This group aims to explore the unique experiences of international students while offering connection, community, and solidarity as they navigate their study abroad experience and cross-cultural adjustments. Themes of discussion will address adjustment related concerns including homesickness, culture shock, language barriers, loneliness and isolation, academic concerns, discrimination and microaggression, as well as post-graduation anxiety.
LGBTQIA+ Students Support Group* | Date/Time: TBD
This group is an inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ identified students to share their experiences, build connections, and find solidarity. All LGBTQIA+ identified students are welcome, no matter where they are on the spectrum of being out. This group will be facilitated by LGBTQIA+ identified counselors.
Skills Groups

3-session Mindfulness Workshop* | Wednesdays 3-4pm
This group will expand your repertoire of coping skills and increase your ability to manage difficult and unpleasant experiences, with an emphasis on mindfulness and in-the-moment practices.
6-session Focused Study Workshop* | Tuesdays 4-5pm
Coaching on how to focus and effectively use study strategies even when you feel overwhelmed.
Managing Intense Emotions* | Thursdays, 2:30-4pm
Group members will learn strategies and skills to better manage intense emotion, reducing emotional vulnerability, increase interpersonal effectiveness, and finding balance in day-to-day life.
Informational Groups
ADHD/LD Informational Group | Tuesdays 2pm-3pm, Fridays 10:30-11:30am
A one-time meeting to learn about SHAC’s services for the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD and learning disorders. This includes a brief individual consultation with a SHAC Psychologist. Call SHAC reception to register.
