Each year, the English Department recognizes student writing by awarding prizes and scholarships to Portland State students.  The Department also hosts the annual Nina Mae Kellogg lecture, bringing an eminent writer or scholar to campus to speak to the Portland community.  Over the past fifty years, the Department has recognized the work of hundreds of students and has brought a series of distinguished writers, scholars, editors, booksellers, and thinkers to the Portland State campus.

Applications for the Department's 2018 awards and scholarships  are due by February 1, 2018, and (except as noted) must be submitted through the Portland State Scholarship Application System

The 2017 Nina Mae Kellogg Lecture will take place on October 19, 2017.  The lecturer will be Saidiya Hartman on "An Intimate History of Slavery and Freedom."
