Order of the Engineer Ring Ceremony

Friday, June 12th
10–11am
Engineering Building Atrium
(1930 SW 4th Avenue | Portland, OR 97201)

Family members, friends, and mentors are warmly invited to attend and share in this special milestone.
The Order of the Engineer was established in the United States in 1970 to foster pride, responsibility, and ethical commitment within the engineering profession. Since its first ceremony on June 4, 1970, at Cleveland State University, thousands of engineers across the country have participated in this meaningful tradition.

During the ceremony, participants voluntarily accept the  Obligation of the Engineer, a pledge to practice integrity and fair dealing, to uphold the standards and dignity of the profession, and to recognize the profound responsibility engineers carry in serving humanity. The stainless steel ring, worn on the fifth finger of the working hand, serves as a daily reminder of that commitment.
Portland State University (link 315) is honored to host this meaningful tradition and to welcome engineers from our community and beyond into this enduring tradition.

Ceremony eligibility is open to:

  • Graduating seniors in an ABET‑accredited engineering program
  • Graduate students in engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineers
  • Practicing engineers who meet Order of the Engineer eligibility requirements
  • Participants do not need to be Portland State University students or graduates to take part in this ceremony.
  • Attendance at the ceremony is mandatory for all candidates who wish to receive the Engineer’s Ring.

Candidates must complete the registration form and pay the fee ($15) prior to the event.
