Intro to Trauma Informed Care Online Modules

Did you know that you can have a role in creating a more equitable campus?

As a step forward, the Employee Access, Success, and Equity (EASE) task force is honored to invite colleagues to volunteer to complete a free, non-mandatory training opportunity through Trauma Informed Oregon.

As we navigate institutional changes, it is a particularly important time to develop trauma-informed care and practices, to take care of each other, and to focus on ways to create a better workplace for all and support employee retention across Portland State. We're writing to enlist your help in making that happen.

The Introduction to Trauma Informed Care (TIC) Online Training Modules by Trauma Informed Oregon take around 90 minutes to complete and can be broken into parts over time.
These modules:

  • Provide employees with professional development and help meet Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) objectives.
  • Increase trauma awareness (for example that 84-89% of college students have reported experiencing some sort of traumatic event in their lives. (Anders, et al., 2012; Frazier, et al., 2009; and Vrana & Lauterbach, 1994)).
  • Outline the basics of TIC practices that units can integrate into their workspaces.

These modules are an important stepping stone to provide background learning and develop a shared understanding of our next steps, which are:

  • Creating opportunities for those who complete the training to gather, reflect and organize about how to initiate trauma informed care practices at PSU using a racial equity lens.
  • Establishing ways to work together to avoid retraumatization and create spaces for healing.
  • Promoting the Trauma Informed Oregon training to student employees in Fall 2023.

Complete your free non-mandatory training in five steps:

  • Visit Trauma Informed Oregon
  • Register for an account with your pdx.edu email address
  • Take the modules
  • Save your certificate
  • Add your name and pdx.edu email address to this Google Form after completing the modules.

This training is not mandatory. For non-exempt employees, time spent completing the modules will only be compensated if the employee receives prior approval from their manager to complete the training during regular work hours.
