The BIPOC GTEP Affinity Group provides future Black and Brown educators with a space to connect, reflect, learn, heal, and act. We center our identities, lived experiences, needs, and struggles as BIPOC educators and work to build a sense of belonging, collective resilience, and transformational power.

Educating Young, Underrepresented Students About AI, Robotics, Wireless Communication, and the Intersection of Them

We plan to help young, underrepresented high school students connect ideas of how STEM training in artificial intelligence, robotics, and wireless communication can help solve problems directly related to their communities. This will help increase the number of underrepresented students pursuing STEM degrees.

PIAAA Studies Initiative Field Trip: Social Sustainability Month

The Cultural Sustainability Volunteer Team will host a trip for PSU’s Pacific Islander, Asian, and Asian American (PIAAA) students. We’ll visit a Portland-based PIAAA center, cultural site, or museum to meaningfully collaborate and connect with local PIAAA community and leaders. 

Exploring Barriers Post-pandemic Affecting PI Student Success, Academic Retention, and Extracurricular Recruitment

This exploratory project will look into exploring barriers via an anonymous survey impacting academic retention, student success, and participation in extracurricular activities post pandemic affecting Pacific Islander students attending Portland State University.

Native American Student & Community Center Podcast, in partnership with KPSU

Hire students at Native American Student & Community Center to host produce a series podcasts related to the NASCC’s work and community utilizing existing KPSU resources to be aired and distributed on campus and online.

Mi Identidad en Color: Using Art to Tell the Stories of Latiné/x Students at PSU

This project will provide Latiné/x students at Portland State University (PSU) an opportunity to express and document their experiences via art pieces that illustrate the various ways their identities have been affirmed and/or marginalized on campus.

Emotional Support Group for PSUs Students of Color

Book Publishing Students Create Resources to Guide Ooligan Press in Publishing Books By and About Indigenous Peoples

The book team producing Ooligan Press's Tribal Histories of the Willamette Valley will produce resources for students publishing books by/about Indigenous peoples after visiting the Museum of the Oregon Territory and the Chachalu Center in Grande Ronde. 

Development of a Year-Round Seminar Series on Equity

A year-round, 1 credit seminar will be offered for all Master’s of Urban Planning Students to further their knowledge on equity and use these skills in their professional careers.

Engaging BIPOC Students in Creation of SSW Equity Office

We are requesting funds to engage BIPOC students around their needs for a DEI office/position within the School of Social Work.  Information will be gathered through a focus group and interviews with diverse BIPOC students across SSW academic programs.

Queer Students of Color Conference 2023

We created and began hosting QSOCC in 2011 as a free multi day conference that centers the work and experiences of Queer and Trans Black, Indigenous, and Students of Color. Workshops, keynotes speakers, caucus spaces, community meals, and more, make this event special, and the students and community attendees make it great.

Rethinking Democracy: ReClaim and ReBuild

Native Well Being through Art Therapy and Artistic Expression
