​Rafeel Wasif’s research interests include Data Science and AI, Public and Nonprofit Management, DEI, and Data Science. One of his research streams looks at adopting Artificial intelligence tools in government and nonprofit sectors. with a focus on explainability, transparency, and accountability. His other research focuses on organizations belonging to racial and religious minorities in the US by focusing on the Muslim-American nonprofit sector and international NGOs operating in South Asia. Before joining Portland State, Rafeel finished his Ph.D. at the University of Washington Seattle and worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Lilly Family
School of Philanthropy at Indian University-Purdue University (IUPUI). His work has either been accepted or published at Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly (NVSQ), Voluntas, Nonprofit Management and Leadership (NML), Nonprofit Policy Forum (NPF), and Voluntary Sector Review (VSR). Rafeel has previously been a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship. His work has been funded by the American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), Templeton Foundation, Islamic Relief USA, and Muslim Legal Fund of America.
