Student Campus Resources

Portland State University has a lot of resources for TSUSP students. See myPSU for a general overview. Also check out the Office of the Dean of Student Life, the home of essential programs and services that are part of the division of Student Affairs. They provide wrap-around resources that attend to the holistic needs of students and promote your success in college and beyond.  The Student Life Resources Guide provides easy access to useful resources in various situations. This calendar includes some of the many events at PSU.

Below we highlight other resources

Student Spaces

There are a lot of places for you to study, gather with fellow students, and join online classes or meetings, both in the Urban Center and around campus. These include:

Computer and Other Technology Resources

Students have access to a variety of computing resources on campus and through the PSU Office of Information Technology.

  • CUPA has a computer lab available for MURP students: the main CUPA lab (URBN 230), which is open M,T,W from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and has 25 PCs and 2 Macs, including a couple with specialized software such as Adobe Creative Suite and GIS. Note:  hours for all labs are subject to change. A second lab, the Pernsteiner Instructor Lab (URBN 225), is available primarily for class instructional purposes, but occasionally MURP students may access this lab for group projects.
  • There are several other lab spaces around campus that have longer hours and/or more specialized software or hardware.  The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has a free app called LabFind which will help you find the closest open computer lab, determine whether computers are available, search for specific applications, and discover printers nearby.  Note:  hours for all labs are subject to change.
  • The Office of Information Technology keeps this list of software for PSU computers: https://portlandstate.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/2/article/44703755
  • As a student, you have free and cost-reduced access to a number of computer programs for downloading on your personal computer. See https://portlandstate.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ITKB/pages/475168793/Software+and+Apps for one list.
  • The Library and OIT collaborate to offer short and long-term rental of various items like laptops and A/V equipment. See https://library.pdx.edu/study-spaces-computers/equipment/.
  • In addition, the Toulan School loans out some equipment on a per-class basis.

Research, Writing, and other Academic Support

  • PSU Branford Millar Library : The library has a wide variety of online and in-person resources for students.  Good research starting points are the Urban Studies Research Guide and the Urban & Regional Planning Research Guide. Also, CUPA has a dedicated library faculty member who is available as a resource for MURP students, especially in accessing research databases and other digital media to support academic projects.
  • Writing Center:  PSU students have access to free, in-depth, one-on-one writing advice through the Writing Center, which is operated by the English Department. Special assistance is available to non-native speakers of English.
  • Learning Center: Offers tutoring, academic coaching, testing and more
