Interdisciplinary Research Collaborative on Resilience and Climate (IRC2)

In 2022, ISS began piloting the Interdisciplinary Research Collaborative on Resilience and Climate (IRC2), which brings together PSU faculty from different disciplines with external partners to pursue substantial grants for impactful projects relating to climate, resilience, and/or sustainability.

Through this process, IRC2 also seeks to accomplish a related range of goals:

>>Provide a forum for faculty to learn about each other’s work, methodological expertise, and potential points of collaboration;

>>Prepare faculty leaders to support collaborative projects;

>>Build and strengthen external partnerships to catalyze collaborative research and pursue use-inspired grant applications;

>>Connect faculty with external partners to foster connections; and

>>Engage PSU students in research, project work, and community outreach.

ISS provides staff support to IRC2 to manage collaborations and organize complex funding proposals from idea to submission.

So far, our activities under this heading include:

>>Organizing multiple convenings on the topic of earthquake resilience research, leading to the submission of a grant proposal and connecting the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality with expert support;

>>Submitting four grants worth $4.25M total; and

>>Spearheading a submission to NOAA’s Climate Ready Workforce for $10M to establish a training and internship program at PSU and Southern Oregon University.
