USGS National Water Availability Webinar
January 13, 2026
12-1pm PST
Join the USGS Water Resources Mission Area for a briefing on new water data in the National Water Availability Assessment Data Companion.
The National Water Availability Assessment Data Companion (NWDC) is a centralized, user-friendly website providing water information that underlies the National Water Availability Assessment. In this update, we present newly available model-based estimates of water supply and the balance between water supply and water use derived from USGS scientific models. These data add to the currently available suite of modeled water use data offered through the NWDC.
Registration is not required. Click here to join the webinar.

Adam Booth (PSU) was recently featured in "Landslides 'are everywhere' in Oregon and more unpredictable than earthquakes" in The Register-Guard newspaper (Eugene, OR).
Melissa Haeffner published Coevolution and Prediction of Coupled Human-Water Systems: A Sociohydrologic Synthesis of Change in Hydrology and Society. The book provides an in-depth examination of the intricate interactions between hydrology and society. Inspired by the "Panta Rhei" scientific decade (2013-2022) of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS), the book focuses on the interactions between hydrology and society.
Miles Mayer (PSU/USGS) and Heejun Chang (PSU) and recently published "Thermal Regimes of Beaver Impacted Stream Reaches in the Tualatin River Basin, Oregon, United States." This article was based on Miles' UPP-supported graduate thesis at PSU.
A recent OPB article covered Elise Granek (PSU)'s research on reducing the microplastics released from household appliances: PSU study looks at curbing microplastic releases from washers and dryers.
Eleanor Gaines (PSU), director of the Oregon Biodiversity Information Center and the Institute for Natural Resources - Portland, published an update to Rare, Threatened, and Endangered Species of Oregon this fall.
The UPP was highlighted in a Portland State Magazine article this fall about PSU's water workforce efforts. Mary Munt, PSU undergraduate student and USGS intern, provided an inspiring interview. View the video and article: Riding the Next Career Wave: Water@PSU.
