Calendar Course Description: This workshop topic has the potential to activate attendees. We encourage everyone to have their own plan should any discomfort arise. We will also have a licensed clinical social worker present in case any one on one break out spaces are needed. Overview of lessons learned from a successful pilot program rolled out throughout six DV/SV programs around Oregon to support advocates to feel equipped to support survivors experiencing suicidality. Understand the connection between trauma, abuse, and suicide risk Unlearn and counter common myths about suicide Learn how to succesfully develop partnerships with your local mental health providers Connect with additional training resources for suicidality Learn why it is important to screen early & often and introduction to common suicide screening tools. Walk away with concrete crisis resources & safety plans to provide to survivors who disclose suicide thoughts Presenters Aliza Tuttle: Aliza Tuttle is a senior research assistant at the Regional Research Institute for Human Services at Portland State University. She was the Project Manager for PSU’s evaluation of OHA’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Suicide Prevention grant and is the current Project Manager for the evaluation for various suicide prevention grants. Aliza lives in Corvallis and enjoys tending her small farm in her free time. Lea Sevey: Lea Sevey has been in the domestic and sexual violence services field for over 20 years and is currently the Director of Capacity & Programming at the Oregon Coalition against Domestic & Sexual Violence. Lea also sits on the board of directors for Neighbor Works Umpqua. Lea holds a Master’s degree in Human Services from Capella University.
